Working in the heart of the financial centre of London is pretty exciting. You can feel the buzz of the atmosphere - lots of stuff happens here.
That added to the complete jump over to 3rd line makes this contract the best role I've landed.... Ever! As daunting as it may seem when faced with the choices of sink or swim I choose swim.
The most notable aspect of working in this environment is that there's no real distinction of 1st 2nd or 3rd line. Everyone does a bit of everything and the team is almost all made up of contractors.
There is much scope for innovation and initiative - if you notice that something can be done better (installation of a patch management server for example) you can do it!
It seems this role has it all - amazing location, awesome technology, hands on experience of just about everything (AD, Cisco, Linux, SQL, Oracle, Reuters, Bloomberg, Storage area networking, clusters to name a few) complete autonomy, project work, ITIL......
Oh and did I mention there are only about 100 users - and they're up on the trade floor all day nowhere near their PCs!
Think I'll stick this one out for as long as possible..
