In these days of fast moving technology that affects almost all of what we do, a computer information system career guarantees an exciting future with fabulous rewards.

Starting out on a computer information system career is one of the best choices I have ever made. I always knew I had an affinity with technology and had imagined myself working with computers for some time before I actually did.

For me it was the right move and I have never looked back. I like it because it is fast paced, hugely interesting, constantly evolving and generally very rewarding in a few different ways.

There are many different directions a career in IT can go so if you’re considering starting out on one you need to have an idea of which field interests you the most. Too many people try and follow money and base their decision of what field to go into on that. They fail because their motivation and expectations are all wrong.

There are several different directions an IT career can go in, it helps to know where you’d like to be in 5-10 years to give you something to work towards. Many people jump in and look for helpdesk/call centre entry level jobs with no idea of what they’d like to move on to.

It takes time to build up experience and knowledge so you really want to make sure you’re investing that time into building a career that is right for you. Changing direction after several years can be painful, if you really want to it often involves going back to step 1, progression wise and salary wise *ouch!* (Not good if your lifestyle and outgoings are dependant on a certain wage!)
