About Me
My name is Peter Webber. I am a 33 year old IT field technician living in South West London UK. I have over 7 years experience in IT starting from absolutely nothing.
I am not a recruitment councellor, or an academic expert on career and employment matters - I don't have an advanced degree in computer science either, so why exactly have I created an entire website and this blog about getting into entry level computer jobs?
Because I got my first job knowing absolutely nothing about computers. I left school at 17, didin't go to college, didn't have any qualifications at all.
How did I one day find myself working on a helpdesk for a major global blue chip bank?
By making up for my lack of knowledge and experience by being as useful as I possibly could. I recognised that the key to doing this job was to help the team get things done, talk to users in a language they understand, pass on problems to the relevant teams quickly, feed back the status of issues to the users regularly (even if there was nothing to report) and pick up as much as I could along the way!
7 years later I'm driving a nice company car, being flown around the world to work with cutting edge technology and generally enjoying a very rewarding career.
My story is proof that anyone can get into this career even with no knowledge or experience, I intend to use my experience to help others get a foot in the door and never look back - I hope you gain something useful from this blog and site. I welcome any feedback so don't be shy about leaving a comment on the blog if you have any questions or feedback.
Peter Webber CCNA, MCP (NT4).
