Can Business Awareness Training Give YOU a Serious Edge Over Your Competition?

Why get Business Awareness Training?...

.....Because getting ahead in today's workplace and jobmarket requires more than being good at what you do and knowing your stuff.

How many interviews have you had that have included some really nasty scenario questions specifically designed to put you on the spot "umming" and "ahhing" in front of a panel of prospective employers?

Those unpleasant, blindsiding questions are there to test 1 thing - business awareness.

The ability to naturally take those questions in your stride and give the right answers unflinchingly mostly comes from experience - but what if you don't have any (or enough)....

..........Cue Business Awareness Traning

The bottom Line

Whatever your field, no matter how technical or non salesey or as far away from the actual business side of the organisation it may seem, your reason for being there is to do what you do best in a way that most efficiently contributes to your company's bottom line.

You have got to think in terms of bottom line and productivity and apply that thinking to every thing you do!

That is if you want to get ahead or beat your competitor to that job offer. You'd be suprised at how many people don't think in terms of productivity (money) or learn the importance of business awareness the hard way.

Time is Money!

If you are like I was a few years ago you don't think in terms of bottom line and productivity.

If you're like me you enjoy taking things to bits and putting them back together again. I enjoy the chase of tracking down the solution to a problem and the feeling of satisfaction when I fix it is better than... err.. driving a really fast car!

But spending too long on a problem without knowing when to delegate is bad - it takes time.

Unfortunately in business the luxury of time is not available. Why?-

Time is money!!

A classic mistake for newcomers to any field is not asking for help and trying to figure stuff out on their own- I did it early on, I'd feel compelled to find a solution to something no matter how long it took.

It's OK not to have all the answers, what matters more is the company's bottom line.

Here is an example of using business awareness in the troubleshooting process.

  • Decide how much time you’re going to devote to trying to fix something before you make a start.
  • Form a mental checklist for your troubleshooting process and decide on a cut off point.
  • Methodically go through your troubleshooting steps and if you haven’t found the answer after ticking off your mental checklist- pass it on.
  • Be sure to detail the steps you have taken to whoever you pass it on to so they do not duplicate any steps you have taken.
  • Also (this is important) follow up with the person you passed it on to after it has been resolved, find out what the solution was and write it down.

Business awareness training will get you thinking in terms of company productivity and minimal downtime. If you can put these skills on your resume you'll get a lot more interest than someone with just technical qualifications. Market yourself with the right technical qualifications and some business awareness training and you'll be very employable!
